us a list of whom he might nominate to the Supreme Court if he wins the
White House.
The list is made
up of mostly white men. Some are outside-the-box picks; others are more well
known (including one for his social-media acumen that has not been too
particularly kind to Trump):
Willett is the
only candidate on this list with ties to the #NeverTrump camp. But overall,
this list is notable for what it’s not: Exciting. It’s full of traditional
candidates, many of whom had won a place on a wish list compiled by the
conservative Heritage Foundation, reports The Washington Post’s Supreme Court
reporter, Robert Barnes. Five are state Supreme Court judges, and the rest
serve on the level of courts just below the Supreme Court, the federal circuit courts
of appeal.
Here's a brief
rundown on who made Trump’s Supreme Court short list, in alphabetical order:
1. Steven Colloton of
Iowa
This Iowa
native has served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit
since 2003. He has a pretty traditional law background — editor of the
Yale Law Journal, clerked for Justice William H. Rehnquist in
1989 and '90, served as a U.S. attorney and worked for an
independent federal investigative agency, once headed by Ken Starr, he of Bill
Clinton impeachment trial fame. President George W. Bush appointed him U.S.
attorney for the Southern District of Iowa, and he rose to the appeals court in
2003.
2. Allison Eid of
Colorado
Eid has served on
Colorado's Supreme Court for the past decade. Before that, she was the
solicitor general for Colorado, which means she defended state agencies
and officials in court. She’s a University of Chicago Law School grad and
clerked for U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. In 2002, President
George W. Bush appointed her to serve on a committee to write the history of
the Supreme Court. Colorado’s Republican governor at the time, Bill Owens, then
appointed her to serve on the state Supreme Court. She won reelection to the
job in 2008, with 75 percent of the vote.
3. Raymond
Gruender of Missouri
Gruender is
on the 8th Circuit alongside Colloton. He’s a George W. Bush appointee and
has more of a political background than some of the judges on this list.
Perhaps as a result, he’s consistently mentioned as a potential Supreme Court
nominee by Republicans. In 1996, he served as the Missouri state director for
GOP nominee Bob Dole’s presidential campaign, and he served as the U.S.
attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri before the Senate confirmed him
to his current job, 97 to 1. He wrote the opinion that ruled that a
1978 pregnancy law does not give female employees the right to contraceptive
coverage, which opponents of the Affordable Care Act have used to take their
case to the U.S Supreme Court.
4. Thomas Hardiman of
Pennsylvania
Hardiman is
a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit and also a George
W. Bush appointee. He’s a Georgetown Law School graduate and has written two
majority opinions that were reviewed by the Supreme Court: one supporting
the strengthening of mandatory minimum sentences for criminals, and the
others supporting a Pennsylvania jail’s policy of strip-searching the people it
arrests, arguing that it does not violate a person’s Fourth Amendment
right of unreasonable searches and seizures.
5. Raymond Kethledge of
Michigan
Kethledge serves
on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit and is — you guessed it —
a George W. Bush appointee. Before joining the bench, he was the legal counsel
for Spencer Abraham, a Republican U.S. senator from Michigan and former secretary
of energy. It took Kethledge two years to get the job he has now because
Michigan’s two Democratic senators opposed him (mostly for political reasons,
it seemed; by opposing Kethledge, they ended up getting a Clinton nominee to
the court out of the deal.) Once on the court, Kethledge has voted in favor of
a Republican-backed law prohibiting public employee unions from collecting
union dues on their paychecks. 6. Joan Larsen of Michigan
Larsen serves on Michigan’s Supreme Court. She’s a Northwestern
Law School graduate, and she’s clerked for none other than the man Trump hopes
she’ll replace: Justice Antonin Scalia. She worked as a private lawyer in D.C.
and was a legal adviser to President George W. Bush around the time, critics
pointed out, he was receiving controversial legal advice about waterboarding.
Larsen said she
didn’t work on that: “I read about them in the newspapers, just like you did.”
Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R) appointed her to the court in 2015. Also worth
noting here: She faces voters this November, just like Trump, so it will be
interesting to see how she plays this in a blue-leaning state.
7. Thomas Lee of Utah
Lee is the
associate chief justice for Utah’s Supreme Court, where GOP Gov. Gary
Herbert appointed him in 2010. He’s a University of Chicago Law School graduate
and clerked for the high court’s Thomas before going into private practice and
teaching at Brigham Young University. He’s argued before the Supreme Court and,
like many people on this list, worked in the Justice Department during the
George W. Bush administration. Oh, and his brother happens to be Mike Lee, the
U.S. senator from Utah. Senator Lee was considered for this list, too, reports
The Post’s Barnes, but given his adamant support for Ted Cruz, he was dropped
in favor of his brother.
8. William
Pryor of Alabama
Pryor is Alabama's former attorney general; at the time he was
the youngest state attorney general in the United States, according
to AL.com. George W. Bush nominated him to be an appeals court
judge, and today he serves on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.
During his confirmation hearings, Pryor called Roe v. Wade, the
Supreme Court ruling legalizing abortion, “the worst abomination in the history
of constitutional law.” He was eventually confirmed 53 to 45.
9. David Stras of Minnesota
Stras is an associate justice on the Minnesota Supreme Court and
a former University of Minnesota Law School professor. He's a University of
Kansas Law School graduate and clerked for Thomas on the Supreme Court. He was
also a D.C. prosecutor for white-collar crimes. Then-Minnesota Gov. Tim
Pawlenty (R) appointed him to the state Supreme Court in 2010, and he was
believed to be the first Jewish justice on that court. (He would become
the fourth on the current federal high court, joining Ruth Bader Ginsburg,
Elena Kagan and Stephen G. Breyer.)
10. Sykes of Wisconsin
Trump hinted at Sykes’s
potential for this list back in February, saying he’d like to have a
conservative justice “tailored to be just like Justice Scalia.” She’s a judge
on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit and a former justice
on Wisconsin’s Supreme Court. Before that, she won election to a newly created
trial judge spot on the Milwaukee County Circuit Court in 1992. Her ex-husband,
a conservative Milwaukee talk-radio host named Charlie Sykes, just happens to
be the guy who strenuously opposed Trump in the state’s presidential primary
and gave Trump a
grilling on live radio. Charlie Sykes said his ex would make a great

Willett, a member
of the Texas Supreme Court, is probably the most colorful character on this
list. He's known in judicial circles as “the tweeting judge” for tweeting
tongue-in-cheek stuff like this.
“I’m the most avid judicial
tweeter in America, which is like being the tallest Munchkin in Oz,” he once
said, according to the Dallas Morning News. In fact, the Texas state House named him the state's
Tweeter Laureate in 2015. Willett, who was appointed to the state Supreme Court
in 2005 by then-Gov. Rick Perry (R) and is one of the bench’s most conservative
justices, is also close to Cruz. The Austin American-Statesman reported that making Trump’s
list caught Willett — “dressed casually without his trademark bow tie” — by
surprise. Perhaps that’s because Willett once tweeted this about Trump’s
potential high court nominees.

Justice Anthony M. Kennedy announced on Wednesday that he would
retire from the Supreme Court. His vacancy sets up a showdown for a replacement
that could change the direction of the highest court in the United States.
President Trump said he intends to choose his next Supreme Court
nominee from a list he began compiling during the 2016 presidential campaign.
“I think you see the kind of quality that we’re looking at when
you look at that list,” Mr. Trump said Wednesday in the Oval Office.
He added, “So it will be somebody from that list.”

1. Thomas M. Hardiman, United States Court
of Appeals for the Third Circuit
President Trump considered Judge Hardiman last year for the seat
that was ultimately filled by Justice Neil M. Gorsuch. Judge Hardiman was first
appointed to the federal bench by President George W. Bush in 2003 and was
elevated to the appeals court four years later. He has built a reputation as a
reliable conservative on the court, where he has served alongside Mr. Trump’s
sister, Judge Maryanne Trump Barry, who is said to have recommended Mr.
Hardiman for the Supreme Court vacancy last year. One opinion that could
resonate with Mr. Trump: Judge Hardiman signed on to a decisiondeclaring
that asylum seekers could not ask a Federal District Court to prevent or
postpone their deportation while challenging their removal orders.
2. William H. Pryor Jr., United States
Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit
Judge Pryor was viewed as a finalist for last year’s vacant seat
on the court. He has called Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision that
established a woman’s constitutional right to have an abortion, as “the worst
abomination of constitutional law in our history.” He is close with Attorney
General Jeff Sessions and, like Mr. Sessions, is an outspoken conservative who
has strongly opposed gay rights.
3. Amul R. Thapar, United States Court of
Appeals for the Sixth Circuit
Judge Thapar was confirmed to the appeals court last year and
previously served as a judge on the Federal District Court in eastern Kentucky.
The son of Indian-American immigrants, the White House said he was the first
federal court judge of South Asian descent. Judge Thapar was among those
considered by Mr. Trump for last year’s Supreme Court vacancy. “I’m my own
judge and I hope my track record speaks to that,” he
told senators last year.
4. Brett M. Kavanaugh, United States Court
of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit
Even before Justice Gorsuch was confirmed, White House officials
were already signaling their interest in
Judge Kavanaugh for a future opening on the Supreme Court, should it occur. Mr.
Trump did not include Judge Kavanaugh on his original list of potential
nominees, but added him to a revised list released last fall. A former
prosecutor under the independent counsel Kenneth W. Starr, Judge Kavanaugh was
appointed to the court by President George W. Bush in 2006 and had a difficult road to confirmation. As a White House adviser,
he helped Mr. Bush fill the nation’s courts with conservatives. “Mr. Kavanaugh
would probably win first prize as the hard right’s political lawyer,” Senator
Chuck Schumer, Democrat of New York, said at the time.
5. Joan L. Larsen, United States Court of
Appeals for the Sixth Circuit
A former Michigan state Supreme Court justice, Judge Larsen was
confirmed last year to the federal bench. During her confirmation process, she
was criticized
by civil rights groups for her past rulings and writings on gay
rights. Judge Larsen clerked for former Justice Antonin Scalia and has praised
his by-the-letter reading of the Constitution and the law. A former law
professor at the University of Michigan, Judge Larsen said at her confirmation
hearing last year that she would be an independent-minded jurist. “If someone
believes I’ve passed some litmus test, I honestly don’t know how they came to
that conclusion,” she
said.
6. Amy Coney Barrett,
United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit
Judge Barrett became something of a hero to
religious conservatives last year when Senator Dianne
Feinstein, Democrat of California, questioned what influence the jurist’s Roman
Catholic faith would have on her rulings from the bench. She was questioned in
particular about a 1998 article in
which she argued that Catholic judges should sometimes recuse themselves from
sentencing in death penalty cases. At her confirmation hearing, she backed away
from that position. A former law clerk to Justice Scalia, she served for 15

they are the ones who actually assaulted
Christine Blasey Ford during a house party in 1982 — and not
Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

on the committee released a timeline of events late Wednesday, which included
details about their interactions with the two men who admitted to the attacks.
On
Monday, the timeline recounts GOP staff members interviewing “a man who

Two men
have come forward to members of the Senate Judiciary Committee to claim that
they are the ones who actually assaulted
Christine Blasey Ford during a house party in 1982 — and not
Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Republicans
on the committee released a timeline of events late Wednesday, which included
details about their interactions with the two men who admitted to the attacks.
On
Monday, the timeline recounts GOP staff members interviewing “a man who
believes he, not Judge Kavanaugh, had the encounter with Dr. Ford in 1982.”
The
“encounter” refers to an episode in which Ford claims that Kavanaugh sexually
assaulted her in a bedroom at a Maryland house party.
They
had a follow-up interview with that man, and he provided more detail about the
assault.
Then
on Wednesday, the committee staff said they spoke with a second man who said he
assaulted Ford in 1982.
The committee did not release
any more details about the men, or why both were coming forward with the
claims.

Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh were published in The New Yorker, a
“no trespassing” sign went up on her garage, alongside another that read “I
have no comment” and referred reporters to her lawyer. On Tuesday, the sign was
replaced by a much bolder one that read in all caps, “Please demand an FBI
investigation for Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Debbie Ramirez’s claims.”
Beth Reece, a friend and neighbor, was asked by Ramirez to put
that sign up. She said Ramirez is a strong but very private person. The
53-year-old has accused Kavanaugh of exposing himself to her at a party at Yale
University 35 years ago.
Kavanaugh has strongly denied the allegation and called it a
“smear, plain and simple.”
“[Ramirez is] not doing this to take him down, but for it to be
investigated because it happened,” said Reece.
Kerry Berchem knew both Ramirez and Kavanaugh during her time at
Yale.
“Debbie is not innately brave; she is being brave,” she said.
Despite the intense spotlight, Ramirez has managed to keep a low
profile. Reece says she hasn’t left the house since the story broke. Her
lawyers have been remarkably quiet as well — it took them two days to even
confirm that Ramirez’ account in The New Yorker was accurate. What we do know
about Ramirez comes from family, friends and colleagues who describe her in
glowing terms.
Ramirez was raised as a Catholic in Shelton, Connecticut.
According to The New York Times, one parent worked as a lineman for a phone
company, the other was a medical technician. Her father’s side of the family is
Puerto Rican. Her lawyers told CNN Ramirez has no comment.
Ramirez’s younger sister, Denise, told CNN that she is proud of
her.
“Deb has been tremendously brave and her honesty is above
reproach,” Denise Ramirez wrote in a statement.
Both Denise and Debbie attended Yale, just a stone’s throw away
from their hometown. Jo Miller worked with them in the Yale dining halls, a job
she says was reserved for students on financial aid.
“There were some on campus whose families were very wealthy, but
that wasn’t Debbie’s family,” she said.
Socially though, there was no economic divide between students
on campus. Miller said Ramirez had lots of friends.
“She is a woman of integrity and I find her story credible,”
said Miller.
On the night of the alleged incident, Ramirez admits to being
drunk and, since then, having gaps in her memory. According to The New Yorker,
“she was reluctant to characterize Kavanaugh’s role in the alleged incident
with certainty.”
The magazine reported that it took six days of “carefully
assessing her memories and consulting with her attorney” for Ramirez to go on
record accusing Kavanaugh.” The Times reported that Ramirez had contacted
several of her former classmates to see if they remembered the incident because
she could not be certain that Kavanaugh had been the perpetrator. CNN has not
been able to find any firsthand eyewitnesses to corroborate her story
“There’s no reason in the world why she would come forward if
this wasn’t true,” said Julie Heller, a Yale classmate who described Ramirez as
social, but “not particularly rowdy.”

last 16 years and has been married for more than a decade. Lisa Calderon hired
Ramirez at a victim’s advocacy organization called Safehouse Progressive
Alliance for Nonviolence (SPAN). In the early 2000s, Ramirez worked directly
with domestic violence victims to help connect them with services or support.
Calderon spoke out in support of Ramirez at a rally against Kavanaugh’s
nomination in Denver this week.
“Debbie knows the consequences of speaking up. Unfortunately,
nothing can prepare you for the circus — this is political circus that’s
happening,” she said.
Ramirez is a board member at SPAN, but her day job is now at
Boulder County Housing and Human Services, where she has worked since 2013 as a
volunteer coordinator — helping match needy families with financial aid and
donations. The elected Boulder County Commissioners released a joint statement
about their employee with whom they worked with on a committee focused on
diversity.
“We believe Debbie Ramirez,” read the statement signed by Cindy
Domenico, Deb Gardner and Elise Jones. “The default reaction to assault or
harassment allegations should be the immediate belief of the victim.”
The commissioners were reluctant to talk at all about Judge
Kavanaugh, or his right to the presumption of innocence.
“I think our statement really came from the fact that what has
happened historically is victims are dismissed, and we need to make a shift in
our culture, so abuse stops,” Commissioner Deb Gardner told CNN.

The FBI spoke with

Ramirez accused

according to an account published in The New Yorker. Kavanaugh has
vehemently denied the allegation.
In an interview with
the magazine, Ramirez said that she realized if she ever did speak with agents
for the FBI, she knew she would be questioned about some lapses in her memory,

one of the sources cautioned that the list could expand based on conversations
with others.
The reason Ford and
Kavanaugh might not need to be interviewed is that their accounts are already
known from their sworn testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee last
week, sources said.
President Donald Trump
ordered the FBI investigation following a push from Arizona GOP Sen. Jeff Flake
on Friday. The investigation is narrow in scope and is limited to one
week, although Trump has said the FBI would have “free rein” in the probe.

little girl who won several beauty contests for little girls was severely
tortured, sexually assaulted, and murdered in the basement of the house.

political analyst, currently representing FOX News Channel, where he co-hosts
the show, ‘The Five’. He also writes a political column for USA Today along
with Cal Thomas. Bob first joined FOX News Channel as a political expert in the
year 2000, and then moved to CNN, only to rejoin FOX News Channel once again in
2011 as co-host of The Five. During his stint with CNN, Bob co-hosted the show,

Bob was born on 15th

Beckel had also started his own company, ‘Beckel Cowan’ in 1984, the main focus
of which was American politics. One of the objectives of his company was to
analyze the political scenario in America and makes an assessment of the trends
and developments in American politics.
Earlier, Bob had
served the U.S. State Department during the period 1977-1980 as Deputy Assistant
Secretary of State. He was also in charge of the Presidential campaign for
former Vice President Walter Mondale in his capacity as the campaign manager.
More than his work,
Bob Beckel is known for his controversial statements and foul-mouthed language.
On several occasions, he has got himself
into trouble by rubbing people the wrong way; may it be the American Jews, the
Muslims, Julian Assange, or even his own colleagues. Post Boston Marathon
bombings, he was heard live, strongly advocating the denial of visas to
students coming from Islamic countries. He also used harsh words against Julian Assange, labeling him as a
traitor, and went on to say that he
would like to ‘shoot that son of a bitch’.
He got married to
Leland Ingham in 1992 and the couple has two children from their marriage.
However, their marriage did not last long and his wife, Leland sought divorce
from him in 2002.
Bob found himself in
the midst of a major controversy in the year 2002, when he hired a woman at
the rate of $300 per hour, to visit his home in June that year. He
continued hiring her on a number of occasions thereafter. Days after the
incident, a note was found left on the windshield of his car and a voice
message on his answering machine, demanding $50,000, failing which, the
extorter threatened to make public his illegal activities, by providing all
the evidence of his affair with his girlfriend, to his family, his employer and
the media. What followed was a major investigation led by the Montgomery
police, who tracked down the extorters, but not before the media caught up
with the news. Not surprisingly, bob’s wife, Leland Ingham sought a divorce from him soon
after the incident. Bob has also publicly admitted to being an alcoholic and a
drug addict, although he claims to be recovering from his addiction lately.
Keeping his affairs, bad behavior and addiction in mind, the divorce with his
wife was expected to happen.
No mention he served time in Prison! He
should have!

Ford Friend And Potential Witness: I Have No Idea What She’s Talking About
At the moment, it
appears that Christine Blasey Ford will testify on Thursday. And at the moment,
it’s not clear whether her story will carry much weight. The fourth and
presumably final person Ford apparently claimed was present at the party where
the attack occurred has given a statement to the Senate Judiciary Committee,
and … it’s not much help to Ford:
CNN has learned that the committee has reached out to a longtime
friend of Ford named Leland Ingham Keyser.
“I understand that you have been identified as an individual who
was in attendance at a party that occurred circa 1982 described in a recent
Washington Post article,” a committee staffer wrote Keyser earlier this week.
On Saturday night, her lawyer, Howard Walsh, released a
statement to CNN and the Senate Judiciary Committee.
“Simply put,” Walsh said, “Ms.
Keyser does not know Mr. Kavanaugh and she has no recollection of ever being at
a party or gathering where he was present, with, or without, Dr. Ford.”
Ford’s legal team
tried to put the best spin on it they could:
Ford picked a “friend” who was married
to a fraud, con artist, drug user, and perv – which means her credibility is
ZERO. And Ford is a worthless piece of
CIA trash, who commits crimes and gets paid for it! Leland is probably CIA
trash too – or just someone she just decided to lie about and she doesn’t dare
to say much because of her shady past.

Christine Blasey Ford’s best friend, Leland Ingham Keyser, says
she has “no recollection of ever being at a party or gathering” where Brett
Kavanaugh was present.
Speaking with CNN on
Saturday night, Keyser says that Ford’s claims that she witnessed the alleged
sexual assault are a crock of sh*t:
As the Senate
Judiciary Committee staff negotiates with attorneys for Christine Blasey Ford,
the woman who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of a past
sexual assault, over a potential hearing on Thursday, Republican staffers are
working to interview those who may have information about the alleged incident.
CNN has learned that
the committee has reached out to a longtime friend of Ford named Leland Ingham
Keyser.

Kavanaugh accuser and alleges music industry exec raped her in the 70s.”
Keyser
previously coached golf at Georgetown
University and is now executive producer of Bob Beckel’s
podcast. Keyser is the ex-wife of Beckel, a former
Democratic operative and commentator. A search on OpenSecrets.org reveals
Keyser’s only political donation has been to former Democratic senator Byron
Dorgan. One of the 43 Facebook friends listed
on a Facebook profile for Leland Keyser is a “Christine Blasey” who has
apparently deleted her account.
Every “witness” Ford
has named has now denied knowing anything about her claims.
UPDATE: CNN at
10:54 PM ET on Saturday night finally changed their innocuous headline to read:
“Committee contacts Ford’s friend about party; ‘she has no recollection’ of it,
lawyer says.”

I too fear Keyser flipping. Money. However she and her husband
live in the D.C. area and are/were affiliated with Georgetown University. More
at risk. Was disappointed no one asked Ford “ Whose House was it ? “. I was
with a group of about 14 delightful older women last week. All of them had
experienced teen age groping , some more intense episodes than others. To a
person even though the events were, in some cases 60 or more years ago, they
remembered where it happened. All were skeptical of the “one beer” claim. To a
lady, none of them thought If he did it (which they didn’t believe) he should
be denied the appointment over somewhat typical teen boy behavior. None would
do so in their own instances. They thought in Ford’s case she either
misrememberes or has fantasized something until she believes it. They are
praying for K and have deepest sympathy. As the youngster in the group it was
an enlightening conversation

Second, I call BS on this narrative of her being credible. She is not credible at all IMO. And that her lack of recollection of specifics of the before and after events of that day is due to the effects of traumatic events on memory...
I was the victim of a violent crime, 20 years. I don't remember the actual crime itself (because of the violent nature of it I was knocked the frick out), but I recall the before and after events of that night better than most memories of my life.
Third, my trauma required stitches, surgery, rehab, etc.... I went on. Her "trauma" sounds like she was in the middle of some goofy horseplay wrestling hanky panky with a couple of teenaged guys and there may have been some pubescent cop-a-boob exploration. How can this event be so traumatic that it would be the defining moment of her life to the extent of lifelong anxiety, claustrophobia, bad grades, and need for two front doors.
Anyway, this whole fiasco is mind-blowing and has caused me to make my first post on this board which I have viewed for years. So thanks for popping my cherry.

Former classmate of Kavanaugh's denies
being at party in sexual assault allegation
Patrick J. Smyth
attended Georgetown Prep -- an all-boys school in North Bethesda, Maryland --
alongside Kavanaugh. Both men graduated in 1983. Smyth signed a letter this
summer, before the allegations against Kavanaugh were made public, testifying
that Kavanaugh "is singularly qualified to be an Associate Justice on the
U.S. Supreme Court," along with dozen other of the school's alumni.
Eric Bruce, who is
representing Smyth, authored a letter to Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck
Grassley of Iowa and Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California, the top Democrat on
the committee. CNN has obtained a copy of the letter, which includes a quote
from Smyth denying seeing any "improper conduct" from Kavanaugh.
"I understand
that I have been identified by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford as the person she
remembers as 'PJ' who supposedly was present at the party she described in her
statements to the Washington Post," Smyth says in his statement to the
Senate Judiciary Committee. "I am issuing this statement today to make it
clear to all involved that I have no knowledge of the party in question; nor do
I have any knowledge of the allegations of improper conduct she has leveled
against Brett Kavanaugh."
"Personally
speaking, I have known Brett Kavanaugh since high school and I know him to be a
person of great integrity, a great friend, and I have never witnessed any
improper conduct by Brett Kavanaugh towards women. To safeguard my own privacy
and anonymity, I respectfully request that the Committee accept this statement
in response to any inquiry the Committee may have."
Kavanaugh has denied
being at the party and the allegation of sexually and physically assaulting
Ford.
Another friend and
classmate of Kavanaugh's, Mark Judge, has been named as the other person who
was in the room when the alleged incident took place. Judge has also denied the
incident happened.
Though Smyth states
Ford has named him in connection with the party, she did not publicly identify
him when she provided her account of what happened to the Washington Post
earlier this week. Ford did not immediately respond to a request for comment
through her attorneys, nor did the White House.
The letter is expected
to be sent to Grassley and Feinstein on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Ford's
attorneys argued in a letter to Grassley that the FBI should investigate the
incident before senators hold a hearing on the allegations, which is scheduled
for Monday.
Ford's attorney Lisa
Banks said Tuesday on CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360" following the
release of Ford's letter that Ford will talk with the committee but that she's
not prepared for a hearing that soon.
"She will talk
with the committee," Banks said. "She is not prepared to talk with
them at a hearing on Monday. This just came out 48 hours ago."
Who is
Mark Judge? Brett Kavanaugh's high school friend and the only named witness
Brett Kavanaugh's high school classmate Mark Judge has become a
pivotal yet enigmatic figure in the contentious confirmation hearings for the
Supreme Court nominee.
Kavanaugh and Judge have repeatedly denied the claims. Judge,
who said he and Kavanaugh were "friends in high school," said in a
statement he "never saw Brett act in the manner Dr. Ford describes."
In a letter to the Senate
Judiciary Committee leadership on Friday, Judge said he will cooperate with any
confidential law enforcement investigation into the accusations.
The only named witness
Ford, a 51-year-old psychology
professor at Palo Alto University and a research psychologist at Stanford
University in California, broke her silence after 36 years, telling senators
she didn't speak of the alleged incident in detail to anyone until 2012 when
she was in a couples therapy session with her husband.
She said she originally wanted
to remain anonymous when she contacted her congressional representative in
July, after learning that Kavanaugh was on President Donald Trump's shortlist
of potential Supreme Court nominees. But once her accusations became public,
Ford said she believed it was her "civic duty" to share her story.
After calling the office of her
congresswoman, Ford said she also messaged The Washington Post's confidential
tip line and identified Kavanaugh as her alleged assailant and Judge as a
witness. Ford later agreed to speak publicly to a journalist at the newspaper
and Judge was named in a Sept.
16 article about the alleged incident.
The Washington Post reported at
the time that Judge declined to comment.
Two days prior to that article,
before Ford's name was known, Judge gave an interview to The
Weekly Standard in which he called the accusations "just
absolutely nuts." He said The
New Yorker had contacted him for comment on the allegations and
that's when he first learned he was named in the woman's letter to lawmakers
about Kavanaugh.
Judge's attorney, Barbara
"Biz" Van Gelder, subsequently emailed a letter
dated Sept. 18 to Sens. Chuck Grassley and Dianne Feinstein,
the chairman and the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee,
respectively. The letter contained a statement from Judge, saying he has
"no memory of this alleged incident" that Ford describes.
"Brett Kavanaugh and I
were friends in high school but I do not recall the party described in Dr.
Ford's letter. More to the point, I never saw Brett act in the manner Dr. Ford
describes," Judge's statement reads, in part. "I have no more
information to offer the Committee and I do not wish to speak publicly
regarding the incidents described in Dr. Ford's letter."
'Wasted' high school years
Judge and Kavanaugh both
attended Georgetown Preparatory School, an elite, all-boys Catholic high school
in North Bethesda, Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C.
In 1997, Judge published a
memoir about alcoholism during his teenage years, titled "Wasted: Tales of
a Gen X Drunk," in which he recounts booze-soaked parties with his prep
school friends and alcohol-fueled attempts to hook up with girls. He also
recalls working "at the local supermarket" in the summer of 1982.
Christine Blasey Ford, who testified under oath before the
committee on Capitol Hill Thursday, alleges that Judge witnessed Kavanaugh
sexually assault her at a party in suburban Maryland when they were teens in
the early 1980s.
She told senators Thursday that
the "uproarious laughter between the two," referring to Judge and
Kavanaugh, was among the most painful memories of the alleged attack.
Judge has authored several
other books and is now a Washington-based conservative writer whose byline has
appeared in publications such as The Daily Caller and The American Spectator.
In a recent letter to the
Senate Judiciary Committee leadership, Judge revealed he is a "recovering
alcoholic and a cancer survivor" who has "struggled with depression
and anxiety," and thus avoids public speaking.
Another accuser names Mark Judge
Since Ford's allegations became
public, at least two other women have come forward accusing Kavanaugh of sexual
misconduct and one of them also named Judge.
Michael Avenatti, an attorney
who is known for representing adult film star Stormy Daniels, posted
to Twitter Wednesday a photo of his newest client, Julie
Swetnick of Washington, D.C., along with court documents detailing new
allegations about the behavior of Kavanaugh and Judge during their high school
years.
In a sworn declaration provided
to the Senate Judiciary Committee, Swetnick alleges she "became aware of efforts"
by Kavanaugh and Judge and others to spike girls' drinks at house parties.
Swetnick's declaration also
includes an allegation that she was raped by multiple boys at a party in 1982
while she was incapacitated without her consent. She does not identify her
alleged assailants or the location of the alleged incident but claims that
Kavanaugh and Judge were "present."
Judge's attorney, Van Gelder,
told ABC News in a statement Wednesday that her client "vehemently
denies" the claims.
In a letter emailed to
committee leadership Friday afternoon, Judge wrote that he doesn't know
Swetnick and her allegations "are so bizarre that, even while suffering
from my addiction, I would remember actions so outlandish."
'Uproarious laughter between the two'
During her testimony before the
Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday, a visibly distraught Ford recounted how
the alleged assault occurred. She said she was attending a "small
gathering" at a house in the Bethesda area one summer night in 1982. She
claimed Kavanaugh and Judge were among the party-goers.
Ford said people at the party
were drinking beer and she had one. She later went upstairs to use the restroom
and was shoved from behind into a bedroom across from the bathroom, she said.
She couldn't see who pushed her, she said, but Kavanaugh and Judge allegedly
entered the room and locked the door behind them.
Ford said someone pushed her onto the bed and Kavanaugh
allegedly got on top of her, "groped" her and tried to remove her
clothes, while Judge allegedly alternated between egging him on and telling him
to stop.
"I tried to yell for help.
When I did, Brett put his hands over my mouth to stop me from yelling,"
she said. "Both Brett and Mark were drunkenly laughing during the attack.
They seemed to be having a very good time. Mark seemed ambivalent, at times
urging Brett on, at times telling him to stop. A couple of times, I made eye
contact with Mark and thought he might try to help me. But he did not."
Seared into her memory is
"the uproarious laughter between the two and their having fun at my
expense," Ford told senators.
During the alleged assault,
Ford said Judge jumped up on the bed twice while Kavanaugh was on top of her,
causing them to topple over the second time and allowing Ford to get away. She
ran out of the room, down the stairs and out of the house, she said.
Ford said she has not knowingly seen Kavanaugh since that night,
but she claimed she saw Judge about six to eight weeks later at a Safeway in
the Potomac, Maryland. Judge seemed to be employed at the supermarket chain
when they ran into each other and she said "hello" to him, according
to Ford.
Judge's face turned
"white" and he seemed "very uncomfortable in saying hello
back," she said.
"We had previously been
friendly at the times we saw each other over the previous two years," Ford
told senators. "I wouldn't characterize him as not friendly. He was just
nervous and not really wanting to speak with me. He looked a bit ill."
'Bart O'Kavanaugh'
A visibly emotional and irate
Kavanaugh also testified under oath before the Senate Judiciary Committee on
Thursday, during which he denied all allegations against him.
Kavanaugh told senators he
"never did anything remotely resembling what Dr. Ford describes" and
has never been in a room alone with Ford and Judge.
Senators grilled Kavanaugh about his behavior during high school
and questioned him about the veracity of Judge's book, "Wasted," in
which Judge references a "Bart O'Kavanaugh" who "puked in
someone's car" and "passed out on his way back from a party."
When asked whether that
character was a pseudonym for him, Kavanaugh told senators they would
"have to ask" Judge.
"Mark Judge was a friend of ours in high school who
developed a very serious drinking problem and addiction problem that lasted
decades and was very difficult for him to escape from and ... then he had
leukemia as well on top of it," Kavanaugh said. "As part of his
therapy or part of his coming to grips with sobriety, he wrote a book. That is
a fictionalized book and an account."
'How'd you find me?'
After listening to hours of
impassioned testimonies from both Ford and Kavanaugh, Democratic senators
continued their calls for an FBI investigation into the accusations and for key
witnesses, like Judge, to be interviewed.
That evening, Judge emailed a
letter to the committee leadership asserting his and
Kavanaugh's innocence.
"I do not want to comment
about these events publicly. As a recovering alcoholic and a cancer survivor, I
have struggled with depression and anxiety. As a result, I avoid public
speaking," Judge wrote, in part. "Brett Kavanaugh and I were friends
in high school, but we have not spoken directly in several years. I do not recall
the events described by Dr. Ford in her testimony before the US Senate
Judiciary Committee today. I never saw Brett act in the manner Dr. Ford
describes."
His attorney, Van Gelder, also issued a statement on behalf of
her client: "Mr. Judge does not recall the events described by Dr. Ford in
her testimony before the US Senate Judiciary Committee today. We have told the
Committee that Mr. Judge does not want to comment about these events publicly.
We also have said that he is willing to answer written questions, and he has.
In addition, he is willing to participate in a confidential, fact-finding
investigation. He will not respond to any media inquiries."
Van Gelder told ABC News in an
email Saturday that she nor her client are commenting during the proceedings.
Judge's whereabouts were
unknown for several days as his name appeared in news articles and on TV. But a
reporter with The
Washington Post spotted him on Monday in Bethany Beach,
Delaware, where he apparently has been laying low at a friend's beachfront
house.
Judge wouldn't talk to the
reporter beyond asking, "How'd you find me?"
Mark Judge says he will 'cooperate' with probe 'confidentially'
The Senate Judiciary Committee
reconvened on Capitol Hill on Friday to vote on advancing Kavanaugh's Supreme
Court nomination to the full Senate floor. The Republican-led committee
defeated a motion from Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) to subpoena Judge.
"I'd like to make a motion
to subpoena Mark Judge as a witness before our committee," Blumenthal
said. "Evidently, he has never been interviewed by the FBI, he has never
been questioned by any member of our committee, he has never submitted a
detailed account of what he knows."
Blumenthal also asked the
committee chairman for more time to make a final appeal to halt the
confirmation process, which Grassley granted.
The meeting resumed later that afternoon and Sen. Jeff Flake
(R-Arizona) suggested delaying the Senate floor vote "for up to and not
more than one week" to allow the FBI to conduct an investigation into any
allegations against Kavanaugh. The committee subsequently voted 11-10, along
party lines, to send the nomination to the floor.
Judge emailed a letter to the
committee leadership, saying he will "with any law enforcement agency that
is assigned to confidentially investigate these allegations."
Just as daylight began to wane
from the skyline of the nation's capital, Trump announced he has ordered an FBI
supplemental probe of Kavanaugh.
"I’ve ordered the FBI to
conduct a supplemental investigation to update Judge Kavanaugh’s file,"
the president said in a statement Friday evening. "As the Senate has
requested, this update must be limited in scope and completed in less than one
week."

Ranking Member Feinstein, Members of the Committee. My name is Christine
Blasey Ford. I am a Professor of Psychology at Palo Alto University and a
Research Psychologist at the Stanford University School of Medicine.
I won’t detail my
background since it has already been summarized.
I have been married to
Russell Ford since 2002 and we have two children.
I am here today not because I want to be. I am terrified.
I am here because I believe it is my civic duty to tell you what happened
to me while Brett Kavanaugh and I were in high school. I have described the events publicly
before.
I summarized them in my letter to
Ranking Member Feinstein, and again in my letter to Chairman Grassley.
I understand and appreciate the importance of your hearing from me
directly about what happened to me and the impact it has had on my life and on
my family.
I grew up in the
suburbs of Washington, D.C. I attended the Holton-Arms School in
Bethesda, Maryland from 1980 to 1984. Holton-Arms is an all-girls
school that opened in 1901. During my time at the school, girls at
Holton-Arms frequently met and became friendly with boys from all-boys schools
in the area, including Landon School, Georgetown Prep, Gonzaga High School,
country clubs, and other places where kids and their families socialized.
This is how I met Brett Kavanaugh, the boy who sexually assaulted me.
One evening that
summer, after a day of swimming diving at the club, I
attended a small gathering at a house in the Chevy Chase/Bethesda area.
There were four boys I remember being there at the house: Brett
Kavanaugh, Mark Judge, P.J. Smyth and one other boy (aka WILD CARD) whose name I cannot
recall. I also remember my friend Leland Ingham attending. I do not remember all of the details of how that gathering came together, but
like many that summer, it was almost surely a spur of the moment gathering.
I truly wish I could provide detailed answers to all of the questions
that have been and will be asked about how
when I got to the party, where it took place,
and so forth. I don't have all the
answers, and I don't remember as much as I would like to. But the
details about that night that bring me here today are ones I will never forget.
They have been seared into my memory and have haunted me episodically as
an adult.
(there are no
details! It’s just made up shit and that
experience, if it existed, would last in detail in her head unless she was
physically assaulted and had a head injury etc. She was more apt to remember
the house and how she got there than other things she claimed to remember. She
had to have called her parents for permission! Her parents would know – but the
Senate don’t ask because this is all made-up shit anyway!)
When I got to the
small gathering, people were drinking beer in a small living room on the first
floor of the house. I drank one beer that evening. Brett and Mark
were visibly drunk. Early in the evening, I went up a narrow set of
stairs leading from the living room to a second floor to use the bathroom.
(how
convenient not to remember the address so you can’t verify the facts! And the Senate doesn’t give a shit because
they could have sent letters of inquiry out to others! But that would disprove the FAKE lie detector
test!) When
I got to the top of the stairs, I was pushed from behind into a bedroom across from the bathroom. I couldn't see
who pushed me. Brett and Mark came into the bedroom and locked the behind
them. There was music already playing in the bedroom. It was
turned up louder by either Brett or Mark once we were in the room. I was
pushed onto the bed and Brett got on top of me. He began running his
hands over my body and grinding his hips into me. I yelled, hoping
someone downstairs might hear me, and tried to get away from him, but his
weight was heavy. Brett groped me and tried to take off my clothes.
He had a hard time because he was so drunk inebriated, and because I was
wearing a one piece bathing suit underneath my clothesing. I believed he
was going to rape me. I tried to yell for help. When I did, Brett
put his hand over my mouth to stop me from screaming.yelling. This was what
terrified me the most, and has had the most lasting impact on my life. It
was hard for me to breathe, and I thought that Brett was accidentally going to
kill me. Both Brett and Mark were drunkenly laughing during the attack.
They both seemed to be having a good time. Mark was seemed ambivalent, urging Brett on, although
and at times he told
telling Brett to stop. A
couple of times I made eye contact with Mark and thought he might try to help
me, but he did not.
During this assault,
Mark came over and jumped on the bed twice while Brett was on top of me.
The last time he did this, we toppled over and Brett was no longer on top
of me. I was able to get up and run out of the room. Directly
across from the bedroom was a small bathroom. I ran inside the bathroom
and locked the door. I waited until I heard Brett and Mark leave the bedroom
laughing and loudly walk down the narrow stairsway, pin-balling off the
walls on the way down. I waited and when I did not hear them come back up
the stairs, I left the bathroom, ran down the stairs, through the living room,
and left the house. I remember on the street and feeling an enormous
sense of relief that I had escaped from the house and that Brett and Mark were
not coming outside after me.
She was NOT raped as she originally alleged at the hearing
Brett's assault on me
drastically altered my life. For a very long time, I was too afraid and
ashamed to tell anyone the details. I did not want to tell my parents
that I, at age 15, was in a house without any parents present, drinking beer
with boys. I tried to convince myself that because Brett did not rape me,
I should be able to move on and just pretend that it never happened. Over
the years, I told very few friends that I had this traumatic experience.
I told my husband before we were married that I had experienced a sexual
assault. I had never told the details to anyone until May 2012, during a
couples counseling session. The reason this came up in counseling is that
my husband and I had completed an a very extensive, very long remodel of our home (no one asked her what the
hell she means by “very long” and how long was she without security, etc, but
this is all a staged event anyway), and I insisted on a second front door, an
idea that he and others disagreed with and could not understand. In
explaining why I wanted to have a second front door, I began to described the
assault in detail. I recall saying (WHEN??) that the boy who assaulted me could someday be
on the U.S. Supreme Court and spoke a bit about his background (to WHO? Apparently the
attorney FORGOT to give a preliminary copy to the Senate to prepare and ask
questions!). My husband recalls that I named my attacker as Brett
Kavanaugh.
After that May 2012
therapy session, I did my best to suppress memories of the assault because
recounting the details caused me to relive the experience, and caused panic attacks
and anxiety. Occasionally I would discuss the assault in individual
therapy, but talking about it caused me to reliveing of the trauma, so
I tried not to think about it or discuss it. But over the years, I
went through periods where I thought about Brett's the attack. I
confided in some close friends that I had an experience with sexual assault.
Occasionally I stated that my assailant was a prominent lawyer or judge
but I did not use his name. I do not recall each person I spoke to about
Brett's assault, and some friends have reminded me of these conversations since
the publication of The Washington Post story on September 16, 2018. But
until July 2018, I had never named Mr. Kavanaugh as my attacker outside of
therapy.
This is all changed in
early July 2018. I saw press reports stating that Brett Kavanaugh was on
the "short list" on a list of very well qualified of potential Supreme Court
nominees. I thought it was my civic duty to relay the information I had
about Mr. Kavanaugh's conduct so that those considering his potential
nomination would know about the assault.
On July 6, 2018,
I had a sense of urgency to relay the information to the Senate and the
President as soon as possible before a nominee was selected. I did not know how
specifically to do this. I called my congressional representative and
let her receptionist know that someone on the President's shortlist had
attacked me. I also sent a message to The encrypted Washington Post's confidential top (shouldn’t she have said
hotline?) line. I did not use my
name, but I provided the names of Brett Kavanaugh and Mark Judge. I stated that
Mr. Kavanaugh had assaulted me in the 1980s in Maryland. This was an extremely
hard thing for me to do, but I felt I couldn't NOT do it. Over the next two
days, I told a couple of close friends on the beach in California that Mr.
Kavanaugh had sexually assaulted me. I was conflicted about whether to speak
out.
On July 9, 2018,
I received a call from the office of Congresswoman Anna Eshoo after Mr.
Kavanaugh had become the nominee. I met
with her staff on July 11 and with her on July 13, describing the assault
and discussing my fear about coming forward. Later, we discussed the
possibility of sending a letter to Ranking Member Feinstein, who is one of my
state's Senators, describing what occurred. My understanding is that
Representative Eshoo's office delivered a copy of my letter to Senator
Feinstein's office on July 30, 2018. The letter included my name, but requested
that the letter be kept confidential. (my note:
Feinstein said at the hearing that the letter was CONVEYED, she did not
have the document)
My hope was that
providing the information confidentially would be sufficient to allow the
Senate to consider Mr. Kavanaugh's serious misconduct without having to make
myself, my family, or anyone's family vulnerable to tpersonal attacks and
invasions of privacy that we have faced since my name became public. In a letter on August
31, 2018, Senator Feinstein wrote that
she would not share the letter without my consent. (First of all, the letter
was at the Congresswoman’s office and though this story is a complete farce,
AFTER she gave it to the Congresswoman, she said the press went to her open classroom
and disrupted it, which is violation of the school, and breach of peace – but oh,
she must not have THOUGHT of contacting security =WTF) I greatly appreciated this commitment. All Ssexual assault victims
should be able to decide for themselves whether their private experience is
made public. (my note: And Fraud Ford
deliberately made it public!)
As the hearing date
got closer, I struggled with a terrible choice: Do I share the facts with the
Senate and put myself and my family in the public spotlight? Or do I preserve
our privacy and allow all the Senate to make a decision on Mr. Kavanaugh's nomination
without knowing the full truth about his past behaviors? (what is she pushing
now? Multiple personality Syndrome? Wtf!)
I agonized daily with
this decision throughout August and early September 2018. The sense of duty
that originally
motivated me to reach
out confidentially to The Washington Post, and to Anna Representative Eshoo's office, when there was a list of
extremely qualified candidates and Senator Feinstein's office was always
there, but my fears of the consequences of speaking out started to expotentially increase.
During August 2018,
the press reported that Mr. Kavanaugh's confirmation was virtually certain. His
allies Persons painted him as a champion of women's rights and empowerment. I
believed that if I came forward, my single voice would (get the million bucks slipped
in GoFundMe accounts by the CIA shills I am connected with – my note! It’s
true!) be
drowned out by a chorus of powerful supporters. By the time of the confirmation
hearings, I had resigned myself to remaining quiet and letting the Committee
and the Senate make their decision without knowing what Mr. Kavanaugh had done
to me.
Once the press started
reporting on the existence of the letter I had sent to Senator Feinstein, I
faced mounting pressure. Reporters appeared at my home and at my job demanding
information about this
the letter, including
in the presence of my graduate students. They
called my bosses and co-workers and left me many messages, making it clear that
my name would inevitably be released to the media. I decided to speak out
publicly to a journalist who had responded to the tip I had sent
to The Washington Post and who gained my trust. It was an important to me to
describe the details of the assault in my own words.
Since September 16,
the date of The Washington Post story, I have experienced an
outpouring of support from people in every state of this country. Thousands and thousands of people who have had
their lives dramatically altered by sexual violence have reached out to share
their own experiences with me and have thanked me for coming forward. We have received tremendous support form
from our friends and our community.
As the same time, my
greatest fears have been realized - and the reality has been
far worse than what I expected. My family and I have been the target of
constant harassment and death threats. I have been called the most vile and hateful
names imaginable. These messages, while far fewer than the expressions of support,
have been terrifying to receive and have rocked me to my core. People have posted my personal information and that of my parents on the internet. This has resulted in
additional emails, calls, and threats. My family and I were forced to move out of our home. Since
September 16, my family and I have been living (my
note: so much for the thousands and
thousands of people supporting her = ALL BS anyway!) in various secure locales,
sometimes separated at times together, with the help of security with guards. This past Tuesday evening, my work
email account was hacked and messages were sent out supposedly recanting
my description of the sexual assault.
Apart from the assault
itself, these last past couple of weeks have been the hardest of my life. I have had to relive
my trauma in front of the entire world, and have seen my life picked apart by
people other
than social media on television, the media, and in this body who have
never met me or spoken with me. I have been accused of acting out of partisan
political motives. Those who say that do not know me. I am a fiercely
independent person and I am no one's pawn. My motivation in coming forward was
to be
helpful and provide the facts about how Mr. Kavanaugh's actions have damaged
my life, so that you can take that into serious consideration as you make your
decision about how to proceed. It is not my responsibility to determine whether
Mr. Kavanaugh deserves to sit on the Supreme Court. My responsibility is to
tell the truth.
I understand that a federal prosecutor has
been hired (my note, $$$ - she should be made to pay for all this!) the Majority has hired
a professional persecutor to ask me some questions, and I am committed
to doing my very best to answer them. I have never been questioned by a federal
prosecutor and I will do my best (my note:
that is because the crimes she has committed have been covered up by the
CIA just like with Becker and his tranny wife Leland, who this fraud-Ford
listed as a witness even though Leland looks at least 10 years younger!) At the same time,
because the Committee Members will be judging my credibility (my note, she forgot to
include “or lack thereof”), and I will do my best. I do hope to be able to engage directly with each
of you.
